How To Lose Your New Baby Weight While Having Fun

Written By: Jan

My husband and I were living the American Dream.  We were married about 2 years ago and both had good jobs for a long time before we were married.  Our lives so far have been going as planned.  We live in an apartment in the city and always planned to move to the burbs when our first child was born.  Well 6 months ago our son Levi was born and we were going to fulfill our dreams.

The market for buying a house is good so we were able to find a really nice big house in a good neighborhood. Our neighbors all have children and in no time at all we were all good friends.  I enjoy the company of my adult friends especially when you are home all day talking baby talk.  Shortly after moving in, the girls invited me to go jogging with them in the morning.  I never jogged in my life except to jog to the bathroom after drinking 3 cups of coffee and not wanting to take my eyes off of Regis and Kelly They said it was a good way to lose some of that baby fat we all accumulated (ok so some of it was junk food) and the kids were able to get out in some fresh air.  So I agreed and looked forward to the next morning and getting in shape with the company of my friends.

We were all to meet in my neighbor’s driveway. There they were all 4 of my friends and their nice 3 wheeled jogging strollers.  I pulled up in my Gracco.  I heard a few giggles but they were very nice to not hurt my feelings and said they would take it slow since it was my first time.  Let me tell you, slow didn’t help.  My friends were pushing their strollers like they were pushing air.  Their children looked all comfortable and content.  My poor little Levi was being bounced around like a rock on a trampoline of 3 year olds.  I hate to tell you what happened when we turned a curve.  All I will say is; it’s a good thing strollers come with 5 point harnesses and you should always use it.  I’m sure glad I did.

I found out that day I have a pretty tough little guy.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like he was thrown around like a Kleenex in the wind but we trailed way behind and I did not have the company of my friends like I thought I would.  My husband and I were going to have to have a chat regarding a new stroller if I were to keep up this facade that I could jog with the best of them.

I noticed that all my friend’s strollers had 3 large wheels.  They all were different strollers with different features but they were made for jogging. They had extra room between your feet and the rear wheels so you can  run without your feet hitting the back of the stroller and room for your legs to move.  Hence the name, jogging strollers.  Huumpp.  I get it now a 4 wheel stroller is not for jogging.  One friend had a Jeep Jogging Stroller.  Very nice, large air filled tires and the front tire could be locked to stay straight for the safety of your child (stop laughing at me).  Turning was a little difficult but as it should be again for the safety of your child.  Wide turns prevent tipping.  It of course had a 5 point harness which as I said earlier, you always want to use.

This stroller also had sound system for her and her child.  Her baby listened to Sesame Street music to keep her amused while her mom could listen to her own music if she wanted.  Mostly she chatted with the friends who could keep up with her, not me. My other friend had a Baby Jogger City Elite.  Again with the 3 wheels, this one the wheel swiveled but you could also lock it straight.  The nice thing about this stroller is she could easily take the tires off so she could fit it in the car trunk better.  Nice suspension for your child’s comfort; as well as the padded seats, and of course the 5 point harness.

My friend is very tall and she said the best thing about this stroller was that the handlebar was adjustable and she could raise it to a height that was comfortable for her to jog with. My other 2 friends both had Baby Trend Double Jogging Strollers as they both had 2 children.  One was called the Navigator and one the Expedition.  The Navigator actually had 4 tires but not like my Gracco.  This was an actual jogging stroller and the two tires in front were close together.  She said the reason for the 4 wheels is because with 2 kids in the stroller it is much heavier.

The one who had the Expedition; whose children are younger and lighter said, “I guess I will find out when my children get bigger if it indeed makes the double stroller harder to push with only 3 wheels.   In the mean time, both moms like their jogging strollers and find it very easy to push, guess that’s because there JOGGING STROLLERS!

So when my husband and I go shopping we will have to decide which one is best for us, or me.  I don’t know if my husband will ever go jogging with Levi but we did hear from the other husbands that a guy looks cooler pushing a jogging stroller. Also the fact that there is room for your legs makes it easier for a guy to push as they tend to be bigger.   I think I really want to do this though.  It seems like a good way to stay in shape, I get to visit my friends while exercising, and Levi will get some fresh air at the same time.  At the end of our jog, we always seem to be at a park or playground so it works out for everyone.  As my husband would say, “the proper tool makes all the difference if you want the job done right.”   In this case, the proper stroller makes the difference in whether or not you’re going to jog or just push a stroller.

5 Baby Shower Tips For Expecting Moms

Have you ever noticed how wedding showers and baby showers come in groups, then nothing for years?  I sure hope it doesn’t work the same way for funerals or we will all be in trouble.  When my husband and I got married 32 years ago we had one month where we went to a wedding every weekend. All our friends were the same age as we were and all getting married like we did.

A couple years later and were going to the baby showers.  Then, nothing…..for a long time.  Now our children are older and getting married and so are our friends children and the cycle starts again, wedding and baby showers.

What I Wish We Had

I remember when I had my baby shower 29 years ago.   We went to the store such as Sears, looked at the baby things then registered what we would like to have.  Yes, they had baby registers way back then too.  I’m not that old.  I am however so old they did not have the internet when I was expecting my babies.  I did not have the opportunity like you have now of researching different things or surfing the net to see what is out there.

I went to a baby shower a few months ago for one of my old friend’s daughter.  Baby showers are a good thing, especially if it’s your first baby because for most people, there is no way they could afford everything a baby needs to get started out in life.   Jennifer received many nice things and some things I certainly did not have or necessarily need when my babies were born.

Nevertheless, there were a few things I wished I did have, it would have made my life easier.  Like a baby wipe warmer.  I used to warm the wipe up in my hands although I still managed to shock my baby a bit when I wiped her bottom.  With the baby wipe warmer, the wipes come out so nice and warm there is no shocking your baby with the least bit of cold.

Know What You Want Or Get Stuck With What You Don’t

Jennifer’s baby is old enough now to start using some of the many things she got at her shower that have been stored and waiting for such an occasion.  One of the things was a very nice stroller that she received from her godmother. I know she spent a lot of money on this as she wanted what she thought was the best for her godchild’s baby.  And it really is a nice stroller.  But since her baby was born, Jennifer also has been to some baby showers and found something she likes better.

Jennifer talked to her friend who really did their research.  Her friend knew she wanted to have 2 children and she wants them close in age.  She is real money conscience and also a stickler for recycling and going green.  After much research she chose the City Select Stroller because you can use it as a single stroller and add on to it as you family increases.   She also said that she did not like double strollers as they were too wide to fit in most doors at stores and etc.

Think Ahead

I was really impressed at her reasons and insight as to what she wanted.  She did not want to get just anything; she wanted a specific stroller for a specific reason.  If she got a single stroller, what would she do with it when her second baby arrived?  Also she probably would not be getting a baby shower for the second baby so this would be an expense she and her husband would be making.  She put this stroller on her baby register and she did receive it.  It was a little more expensive than a single stroller but her two sisters went together and got her something she really wants and needs.

The other nice thing about this stroller is that you could put a bassinet on it and you could be pushing both your babies around much sooner.  In a regular stroller, you cannot put an infant in because the stroller does not lay flat.  But with the bassinet attachment, you can put an infant in as they can lie flat.

Do Your Research

Being able to use the internet to do research like this really paid off for this mom.  She was not going to end up with a stroller she no longer needed after such a short time, and made a very wise choice in a nice stroller that she can add on too as her family grows.

After the bassinet, you can add a regular seat to the stroller and have your children sit facing you, facing out, facing each other or not facing each other.  Such versatility, I see why Jennifer wished she had done her research as she also wants two children close in age.  Another one of Jennifer’s friends also made a wise choice.  She is a jogger.  She did not want to give up jogging when she had her baby and wanted to include the baby on her jogs as it was a chance to get outdoors and get some fresh air.  She did research and chose the Jeep Jogging Stroller because you can’t jog using a regular stroller.

Make Their Purchase Worthwhile

The moral of all of this is to take the time and do your research. Really think about what you want to do as these two moms did.  They chose strollers that perfectly match their wants, hopes, and ideas.  In this day in age no one needs to waste money on buying something twice or buying something they won’t really get much use from.  In this case, it will also eliminate having another stroller end up as landfill or taking up room in your garage.  Do your research; think about what you want, and what you need before you fill out that baby register.

I think I would be extremely happy if I had purchased this stroller as a baby shower gift and found the mom still using it years later.   Your friends and family want what you think is best for your baby and want to please you.  Make their purchase worthwhile.

Jeep Jogging Stroller for the Serious Jogger

Jeep Jogging Stroller

I know some people who have a jogging stroller that don’t actually jog per se, they just like the way it pushes and how comfortable their child can be in the stroller.

But if your a serious jogger, the Jeep Jogging Stroller is the one to have.
As a jogger, probably the most important feature of this stroller is it’s fixed wheel.  If you are a jogger, you know what I’m talking about.  If your going at a quick pace, you need that wheel to stay on the straight and narrow for the safety of your child.  Turns are difficult and so they should be.  If you were traveling at a good click and could turn easily, your stroller would tip and possible harm your child.  I’m glad this stroller is somewhat difficult to turn easily when going fast, I rather have my child safe.

Speaking of safety, this stroller has a 5 point harness.  The padding is super comfortable and the seat will adjust to 5 different reclines and accomadates your child until there at least 45 lbs. The air filled tires make for a very smooth ride, even on bumpy terrain such as when you are out jogging.  The Jeep Jogging Stroller even comes with a pump for a quick fix if you happen to get a flat or low tire while out jogging.  It is not the best, but will help in a pinch.

The Jeep Jogging Stroller is also equipped with a iBaby sound system.  Both you and your child can jog to music or whatever you like to make your run more enjoyable for both of you.  Attach your own port audio such as an IPOD or MP3 player and entertain your child as you jog. There is a speed distance odometer which isn’t the greatest, but nevertheless will give you some useful data.

The sure grip handlebars adjust for height and angle giving you the perfect comfortable position for you to jog in.  It has a large storage area under the stroller to fit most anything you would want to bring, but remember the added weight will be harder to push. Their are cup holder for mom or dad, and baby.  Some criticism has been made about the cup holders not being large enough to hold say a bike water bottle, but if that is the only complaint, it certainly is doable.

As with almost all strollers, they are somewhat bulky.  The nice thing about the Jeep Jogging Stroller is that the 16” wheels come off very easily when storing the stroller in your trunk and slide back on easily also.  This comes in very handy when trying to maneuver the stroller into your trunk or back seat.  When folded, it measures approximately 23 x 37 inches.  It also will stand up by itself when folded.

Let’s face it, no stroller if perfect but the this stroller comes pretty close.  Especially if you are a serious jogger, this stroller pushes with such ease you won’t even feel like your pushing much of anything. The sound system is also a nice feature and may distract your child enough to give you your half hour or so of peace and tranquillity alone with your thoughts.  Try doing that with a child when your at home.  It is a comfortable ride for both parent and child and know that Jeep also keeps safety its number one priority for your child and that’s the way it should be…..

Baby Jogger City Elite Stroller

Baby Jogging Strollers are not only for jogging.  I think originally that is what the intention was, but they have proved to be an excellent choice in a variety of situations.

I found I have a need for that type of stroller and have many friends who have jogging strollers.  The one I like best is the Baby Jogger City Elite.  I joined a group of young mothers who needed to get back in shape after the birth of their child.  I just needed to get in shape, and happened to have my grandson living with me on a permanent basis.  I have another travel system stroller that I truly love, but something else was needed for the adventurous part of me.

My husband and I love to walk in forest preserves with our grandson and 2 dogs.  We don’t always stay on the beaten path.  That is where the Baby Jogger City Elite comes in handy for us.  When I am with the young moms, we actually do jog with the strollers. It allows you the room you need with your legs and feet in order to run. It also pushes really easy.  We usually jog on a paved path, but as I said, the Baby Jogger City Elite works really well on all types of rough terrain.

It has these really nice big, 12″ forever air, quick release tires, and swivel wheel.  The City Elite has 3 wheels.  The one in the front swivels completely around.  You can also lock it straight if you are on such terrain as gravel, or muddy, snowy, ground. It is so much easier to push in these situations if your wheel stays straight.

It also has front wheel suspension for a comfortable ride for your little one.  The seat can recline to almost flat, and has plush padding on the seat as well as a 5 point harness for safety.  The canopy has built in screen with a velcro flap you can open for air flow on the sides, and a clear see through plastic on top to keep an eye on your child.

The kicker in the front can be raised up for smaller children to keep them safe and comfortable.  They even sell a foot muff that will keep your baby’s feet and legs toasty warm when you use your Jogger for those winter activities.  It has adjustable handlebars to fit your height and multiple storage areas on the handlebar, behind the seat, and under the seat.

The best part is it folds in one easy step.  I can actually hold my grandson in one arm, and fold the stroller with the other.  It has a 75 lb weight capacity. It only weighs 26 lbs and when folded measures 33.5×27.75×16.  It also has a car seat adaptor so you can make it into a travel system.

These strollers are built by hand, one at a time.  For luxury, comfort, quality, safety, and durability in a jogging stroller, my recommendation would be the Baby Jogger City Elite.  Think about the terrain where you live.  Think about the places you like to go.  How about when you’re on vacation? I know my answers to these questions warranted me having more than one stroller for the different activities that I and my family enjoy doing.

Baby Trend Double Jogging Stroller

After much research, the critics’ choice for a double stroller has to be, hands down, the Baby Trend Double Jogging Stroller.

Baby Trend Navigator Double Jogging Stroller

Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogging Stroller

They make 2 models, the Navigator and the Expedition.

The difference in the two is the Navigator has 2 of everything.  Two front swivel tires, two separate canopies, can adapt to fit two infant car seats, and has 2 child trays. The Expedition has one front swivel tire, one canopy that extends across both seats, and no child tray. Both however are very well made, sturdy, strollers.

Click Here For A Great Deal On The Expedition Double Stroller

The Navigator I think has a few more pro’s though than the Expedition.  If you are pushing 2 children close in age, the one front swivel tire of the Expedition seems to be adequate.  If however you have 2 children whose ages are say 3 years old, and 15 months old, the 2 tire Navigator model seems better equip.  The reason for this is that naturally your 3 year old weighs more than your 15 month old. With one tire, the stroller tends to lean more toward the heavier child when turning.  Having two tires distributes the weight and turns more smoothly.

Pros and Cons

  • Having separate canopies in the Navigator also has its advantages.  For instance, the sun doesn’t necessarily hit in the same place just because your children are side by side.  Maybe one child may have the seat reclined more than the other and have problems with the sun being in his face.  You can adjust each canopy to the comfort of each child.
  • Also another big factor with the Navigator is there are 2 child trays.  This is a really nice feature.
  • Both models come equip with a MP3 player speakers that have mixed reviews.  The sound is not that loud and powerful.  Some people don’t really care and don’t use it even though it is there, and others have said what a great feature it is.  It is entertaining to their children, especially when they are jogging.  At least it is there is you choose to use it.  It certainly does not seem to be the deal maker.
  • Both strollers have a large foot rest that has plenty of room for both children.  It also makes a good place for your third child to take a little rest on.
  • As for opening and closing, both strollers are very easy to do in that department.
  • They have plenty of storage under the stroller and in back of each seat. The adult cup holders are deep and there is a compartment which can open and close to hold keys or baby wipes.
  • On the downside, these double strollers tend to be heavy and don’t expect to fit through standard doorways with the stroller open.   If you are aware of this before you buy, you can learn to make allowances for these few cons.  It certainly is not a deal breaker.  What can you expect?  A double stroller will be double the weight but worth it in the ease of operation and comfort of your children.

Perhaps these strollers were made with the intent of being used outdoors jogging, but we all know how good they are when were on vacation, or just going somewhere where it would be hard to deal with your children running amuck.  Baby Trend Double Jogging stroller allow you the advantage of traveling with 2 children with less stress which we all know makes for a better time for all involved.

When we became parents to our grandson, we suddenly found out we needed a lot of necessary things for him.  One thing we needed right away was a car seat and stroller.  We did some research online, but we did not have the time like most parents do to test drive and take our time looking at all the different selections available.

We also were very tight on money with all these new things we had to buy, so we wanted to make a smart purchase.  We totally went by the reviews we read online.  I am here to tell you, we were not disappointed with our choice of the Chicco Keyfit 30 Travel System.  Everything we read about it was true, even the negative stuff certainly was not a deal breaker.

One negative thing we read was, the fabric could tend to be hot, and yes we found in the summer it could be alittle hot. We remedied that with a terrycloth towel.  Another complaint was the wheels squeak which was handled by some WD40.

Snap And Go Couldn’t Have Been Easier

keyfit 30 travel system

Snap And Go

It had everything we wanted and many things we didn’t even think of.  The last time we were in the market for baby equipment was about 20 years ago.  Things have definitely changed and improved since then.  We were very impressed that there was such a thing as a car seat, which with one little snap, fit snug and secure into a stroller. And it came out with one pull and one hand

We found this feature to be extremely helpful when we took our grandson on a plane to visit his great grandparents.  We were able to push the stroller all the way to baggage check, pulled out his car seat to use on the plane, and put the stroller in baggage.  We now had the safety of his car seat to use in his great grandparents car, and the stroller for ease of transporting our grandson everywhere we wanted to go.  It couldn’t have been easier.

Built For Comfort And Safety

keyfit 30 travel systemThere are 2 bubble levels so you know you have the car seat installed at the optima safety level for your child.  You can just see that the Chicco Keyfit 30 Travel System certainly is a much more comfortable ride than my own children had.

It has comfort energy absorbing foam to absorb the impact on anything other than smooth surfaces.  The car seat has an insertable cushion for when your baby is a newborn 4-11 lbs.  After that, the car seat is very roomy for children up to 30 lbs. It has the 5 point harness recommended for safety. My grandson is now 3 and weighs 35 lbs and I will be looking for a new car seat for him very shortly.  As you can see, this car seat has lasted into his toddler years.  The stroller will fit children up to 50 lbs.  By that time, they don’t want to be pushed around, they want to walk or run everywhere.

Handle Adjusts To Your Height

keyfit 30 keyfit 30 travel system

Adjustable Handle

The stroller has many great features also.  When my grandson was an infant, the back of the stroller folds down completely flat to allow them to sleep flat. It even has a flat recline seat memory that will remember the position you had it in last when the stroller was folded. It reclines in 2 positions and has swivel wheels for ease of pushing.

I liked that the 3 position foot rest came all the way up and you could velcro it in so there was no open area at his feet and he was snug and secure. The handlebar even adjusts to fit different heights. My husband and I are tall and do not like strollers where we have to bend to push it.  It really gets tiring on your back. With the Chicco Keyfit 30 Travel System we can push our grandson around in comfort and so can his 5’3″ tall babysitter who happens to be his aunt. This is a great feature I haven’t found on other strollers.

Snack Tray and Storage Basket

keyfit 30 travel system

storage basket

It also has a snack tray insert that pops out for easy cleaning. They tray can be lifted all the way off, or unsnapped on one side and you can swing it up so your child can walk out of his stroller and you don’t have to lift him. Underneath is quite an ample storage basket for your purse, or diaper bag. Believe it or not, one time when I had it parked, my grandson crawled in it. Read the owners manual and never allow your child to ride in there, which I wouldn’t. But to me, that is a testament to its durability, strength, and size.

Light Weight & Folds Up With One Hand

keyfit 30 travel system

One Hand Folding Action

One touch and the stroller folds up very easily. It only weighs 23 lbs.. They really came a long way in that area compared to 20 years ago. I have no problem lifting it and putting it in the trunk of our Honda Ridgeline. Completely closed it measures 12x21x40.  It really is not bulky compared to some other strollers I had.   I was pleasently surprised with the ease in which this folded up.  Also featured in this picture is the cup holder for the person pushing.  This definately is not a deal breaker for me, but be aware, it is a bit shallow. Its fine on smooth surfaces, but a cup or can can fall out on bumpy ground.  It has a closeable compartment where you can store some baby wipes or keys you don’t want to lose when folded.

All in all, this has proved to be a teriffic buy for both our grandsons comfort and safety and our pocketbook.  It’s not the cheapest stroller out there and it certainly is not the most expensive.  I think it has a big bang for your buck.  All aspects of this system are easy to use, comfortable for the child and comfortable for the person doing the pushing or carrying.  The keyfit 30 travel system definitely warrants a close look if your in the market for a great car seat, stroller system.
